MEET OUR SURGEONS

Brian Martin, DVM, MS, DACVS-SA

Brian Martin has over 14 years as a board certified small animal surgeon. He is a partner and managing surgeon for Veterinary Surgery of Indianapolis. Veterinary surgery is a natural path for Dr. Martin, whose father is also a veterinary surgeon. In his professional service, Dr. Martin has an established proficiency with many orthopedic, soft tissue and neurologic procedures. While these procedures bring him joy, the development of the referral partner and client relationships brings him the greatest professional satisfaction. Serving the community through serving companion animals is a mission of Dr. Martin. Dr. Martin is joined by his wife, Lisa, and 3 daughters. All are active in their local church and veterinary community.

Kate Fitzwater, DVM, MS, DACVS-SA

Kate Fitzwater has over 12 years of experience practicing as a boarded surgeon. Growing up on the east side of Indianapolis, Dr. Fitzwater always wanted to be a veterinarian. Her first job was at a local veterinary hospital where she worked until she attended undergraduate at Purdue University. After veterinary school at Purdue, her rotating internship at North Carolina State University provoked an even stronger desire to specialize in surgery while she worked closely with their canine rehabiltation program. After completing her small animal surgical residency and Master's degree at The Ohio State University she returned back to her hometown of Indianapolis. Dr. Fitzwater loves to teach and share her surgical knowledge and is excited to develop more professional relationships with the referring community. She is committed to providing compassionate care to patients and their owners during the surgical and postoperative healing process. She is married to Luke and they have two children. After living in India as missionaries for a few years, they now live on a farm with multiple animals in Greenfield, Indiana.

The following procedures include, but are not limited to:


Orthopedic Procedures

The mobile approach will provide common specialty, orthopedic procedures like TPLO, MPL, lateral suture and simple fractures.  Other procedures will need to be discussed on a case by case basis.

  • TPLO (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy)

Soft Tissue Surgery

Through our mobile services, we offer common soft tissue specialty procedures such as cystotomy, episioplasty, mass removals, anal sacculectomy, hernia repairs and laryngeal paralysis.  Other soft tissue procedures should be evaluated case by case.

How it works

Schedule with us.

We will consult over the phone and help determine if surgery is the best option for your patient and schedule the appointment for us to come to your practice for same-day consult and surgery.

  1. We determine the price of the procedure and charge your practice directly.

  2. Your practice generates the full patient invoice and charges your client as you normally would with any other service at your practice.

Day of:

On the day of appointment or procedure, our surgeon and assistant will arrive at the scheduled time.  We will call 30-60 prior to arrival to ensure appropriate hospital preparations are initiated.

3.

Your practice:

  1. Preps the patient for surgery for our arrival.

  2. Provides your facility's surgical suite along with a technician to run and monitor anesthesia.

    Note: our surgeon may suggest or require appropriate anesthetic protocols.

4.

Our team:

Our team of surgeon and technician/assistant:

  1. Brings with them all the necessary specialty instrumentation. We may request to use a basic/spay pack for some procedures.

  2. Completes the surgical procedure and initial post-op care.

  3. Provides a surgical report and post-op instructions.

  4. The surgeon will call the client postoperative to discuss operative findings and postoperative care.
